Record selling price in Scarborough

Category Property news

A four-bedroom home with two reception rooms, a mini library/study, two garages and parking for six vehicles, in Scarborough has recently been sold by Greeff Village Homes for R11 million, achieving a record price for the area.  “The home had been on the market for approximately a year, and the couple who bought it are Capetonians with a fondness for the area as they had been married there five years previously,” explains Marianne Furlong, Greeff Village Homes resident agent for the area. The previous top price achieved for the area was R8.3 million for a 495m2 home.

Described as “a magnificent, multi-storey, Mediterranean-style dream home”, the house is designed to frame the views of the surrounding mountains, Scarborough beach, the ocean and the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Situated in Scarborough’s sought-after northern sector, on a double plot, measuring 1,136m², the light filled, 320m² home features an open-plan kitchen and living area flowing out to a large pool deck and patio. A large, private study/studio, with its own entrance, is situated at the base of the property, while an additional outdoor entertainment area, with built-in braai, is positioned on the property’s upper slopes. The well-manicured landscaped garden is home to a natural stream.

“The Scarborough market is booming right now,” says agent Marianne Furlong, of Greeff Village Homes.  “Of the four houses left on the market, the price range is from R3.5 million to R7.2 million (for another fabulous house facing the Reserve), so this truly is an exceptional piece of real estate, and by far one the most spectacular homes in Scarborough,” adds Marianne.

“While you might still find a two-bedroomed, one-bathroomed home for around R2.4 million, it’s becoming rare to get into the Scarborough property market for less than R3 million, while the midrange is around R4.5 million,” explains Marianne.  She reports that there is also a current trend for owners to use their houses for holiday rentals, and this is possibly one of the reasons for the lack of stock on the market at present.
Marianne Furlong says that while Scarborough prices are rising, in many cases to level up with sought after Misty Cliffs, homes are selling within three to four months if correctly priced.

Scarborough is surrounded by a Reserve and is a conservation village situated on the Cape Peninsula to the South of Cape Town in South Africa. Surrounded by a natural landscape of fynbos, as well as otters and baboons and Surfer’s Beach, Scarborough is home to the well-known Camel Rock Restaurant and is close to the Slangkop Lighthouse in Kommetjie. The area is famous for beach walks, mountain hikes and glorious sunsets and only a 50 minute drive from Cape Town.
